The BRS 2020 dates!
In 2015, when we first launched the Buckeye Reining Series, we did so to fill a need we saw in the reining horse industry. There were many good weekend shows, but there were very few larger events East of the Mississippi that offered something for everyone; large purses, great prizes, beginner level incentives, youth activities, good food, comradery and a ton of fun to round out the package. The Buckeye Reining Series filled that need and more. For the past five years, the BRS has been a huge success with competitors traveling from all over the country to compete for large purses and enjoy all the BRS has to offer.
At the end of each year, when the show season is winding down, we take time to assess how well our shows were received that year. We look at what exhibitors and spectators liked or enjoyed the most, things that we can improve upon for the future and most importantly, we look at where we believe the industry is heading and make changes to our shows based on how we feel the Buckeye Reiners can have a significantly positive impact on the reining horse industry. In 2015, we pushed our 7 & Up maturity to help grow the value and longevity of the reining horse. We also kept show retainage at only 20% for our Derby and Futurity to ensure more money goes back to the exhibitor. The popular Youth Prize Closet was started and from the very beginning the BRS awarded high quality and unique prizes to the Top Five in every class. In 2016, we launched the first ever No Entry Fee Derby to help lower exhibitor costs at a large added money event. The BRS VIP Lounge was created to show sponsor appreciation, the BRS Youth Scholarship Program was started and the now famous Youth Party at every show was taken to a whole new level. 2017 saw $1,500 Added Open and Non Pro classes as well as the addition of a derby to our August Futurity Show schedule. Three slates of youth classes were offered during our May show and the BRS partnered with the Ohio Quarter Horse Association so points earned in AQHA classes at BRS shows would count towards OQHA’s Year End Standings as well as state qualifying for the AQHYA World Show. In 2018, we did the $30,000 Buckeye Bonus to give back to the exhibitor and show how much we appreciate your support of the Buckeye Reining Series. We also hosted the first ever Ranch Riding Futurity and added a No Entry Fee Masters division to the Non Pro Derby. In 2019, we worked with the facility to accommodate an earlier arrival date for all exhibitors without incurring a penalty. $1,000 Added Unrestricted Youth Classes were added to each show and we continue to work tirelessly to stay at the forefront of our offerings to ensure the BRS has something for everyone to come and enjoy.
Looking forward to 2020, we spent a long time studying the industry and feel that focusing on QUALITY over QUANTITY is most important. There was a surplus of shows this year that have followed our lead and stepped up their game with more added money and extra incentives to draw exhibitors. Kudos to those groups and associations for helping to strengthen our industry in the Eastern part of the country! We are excited to head out on the road more in 2020 and be a part of your events. With that in mind, the Buckeye Reining Series is going to step it up once more! We will be combining our series into one major event that truly has it all! The BRS, Buckeye Reining Spectacular, will be held September 3-6, 2020 at the Champions Center. The Spectacular will have $100,000+ in added money and feature the McGEE FARMS FUTURITY! But we’re not stopping there. A derby, 7&Up Maturity, Ranch Riding classes and large AQHA classes will also be included giving you the chance to qualify early for the 2021 World Show! There will also be Weekend Bonus Awards, a new Youth Team Tournament, $1,000 Added Unrestricted Youth Class and lots of fun, food and entertainment. This is definitely a show you do not want to miss!
